Jebels By Moonlight

Jebels By Moonlight by Charles Sweeney (1969) is an account of the author's years spent in the Nuba Mountains, the 'Jebels' of southern Sudan. He describes many of his encounters with the wildlife of the area, and his experiences among the Nuba tribesmen. Charles Sweeney tackled the less pleasant of the African fauna, often with his bare hands, at most with a stick and sack to aid him. He shows a very wide knowledge of all forms of wildlife - animals, birds, reptiles and insects in a remote part of Africa. This book was published in the US as 'Grappling With A Griffon'.

He mainly travelled in Dafur, the Nuba Mountains and Bahr el Ghazal in a Land Rover he had driven from England. This book was originally published in Britain as 'Background Of Baobabs'.
